Trees That We're Planting

Hong Kong has seen waves of emigration over the decades. With 2019 marking another round of countless farewells to the beloved city, the seeds of Hong Kongers further sprout across different corners of the world, planting roots and flourishing with our collective effort.
Through this cross-media art exhibition, we hope to share with everyone these ‘trees’ Hong Kongers are planting, while auctioning to raise funds for our fellow brothers and sisters.
One sows and another reaps.
Never forget our roots.

Have A Rice Day | 三餸一湯白飯任裝

Alisan Fine Arts is excited to announce the first solo exhibition for emerging Hong Kong artist Charlotte Mui at Alisan Aberdeen. At her inaugural exhibition, Mui will be showing a new series of paintings that were inspired by her mother and grandmother’s home-cooked dishes. The artist makes use of vibrant colours and personified food subjects on a circular paper canvas to depict her family delicacies such as coconut stewed milk, tomato tofu soup, and turnip cake. The title “Have a Rice Day” is taken from the local Chinese saying “Three dishes one soup and rice for free” (三餸一湯白飯任裝), resonating with the whimsical style of Mui’s work. This exhibition is part of Hong Kong Art Gallery Association’s Summer Programme which aims to promote young Hong Kong talent.

HKwalls Mentorship Programme

Thanks to HKwalls and the Hong Kong Observation Wheel, I will be showcasing a mural I made in roughly 7 days alongside four other murals made by amazing young artists at the Central Harbourfront. This was made possible by HKwalls’ mentorship programme.

For the 2022 HKwalls Youth Mentorship Programme, [HKwalls] received more than 60 applications from very talented Hong Kongers. Of that 60+, five were selected by our mentors, and they have been meeting regularly to discuss their work, their ideas, and how to approach painting murals. Thanks to Hong Kong Observation Wheel, each young artist will be given a space at the Hong Kong Observation Wheel to paint a mural! — HKwalls Instagram

The Star mural by Charlotte Mui was inspired by one of her Lenormand tarot card illustrations she designed to represent hope and aspiration. As a tarot reader herself and aspiring muralist, Charlotte wanted to paint her first mural to help inspire and lift the community at a Hong Kong landmark. — HK Observation Wheel Instagram

Nam2 Haa5 Zine: Tête-à-tête between Zines and Books in AAA Library

To mark the second anniversary of AAA’s zine collection, Nam2 Haa5 Zine: Tête-à-tête between Zines and Books in AAA Library looks at how zines have expanded, challenged, and enriched existing narratives in art history. By pairing and grouping the zines with books and ephemeral materials from AAA Collections, this library display initiates a dialogue between institutional and personal approaches of artistic expression, and the generative discussions they can instigate in a research library.
