#28 Submarine

He didn’t know if this would be the last time he will see land, nor was he sure that he would be able to make it out alive on the other side — if there really will be an empire, lost underwater.

He had signed up for the journey because the professor who was leading the expedition had promised all volunteers and crew members enough gold to keep their families fed for at least a decade. He had a wife and five children under ten — but he didn’t have a job.

He should be emotional, teary-eyed, and even fearful of the mission he was about to embark, as he climbed into the submarine, but he cannot help but look forward to the adventure and sights he was about to witness.

The legend goes that if you dove deep enough into the ocean, you’ll find yourself in the middle of a galaxy, filled with glowing anemones that looked like planets, fish that zoomed through the dusty dark underwater clouds like shooting stars, and treasure from ships that failed the journey before. It’ll be worth it, he told himself, to even see all that before you die

This story is an attempt to make a more proper offshoot of my punny brain’s product: galax-sea. Do you believe in the lost empire of Atlantis?
