#25 Water

At my university, there was a pond, hidden by a few lone trees but always managed to stay in the shade. It was nearly covered completely in overgrown waterlillies and lily pads, creating a floral forest on the surface of the murky water. Despite it being at the centre of the campus, surrounded by students scurrying between lecture halls, a bustling square with mainland aunties dancing to music blasted from a bluetooth speaker, a crowded cafe, and an equally crowded cafeteria, the pond was surprisingly quiet. Perhaps it is its serenity that inspire so many ghost stories.

The older students would tell me of how someone fell into the pond and re-emerged in a pond at another college, on the other side of the city. Others talked about being able to see the reflection of yourself after you die.

But when I passed by the pond in the evening, I saw a pair of yellow eyes staring back at me. I wondered if she would pull me down with her, had I walked closer.
