Amabie (2020 - 2021)
Asia Art Archive
Commissioned by Asia Art Archive to be shared with patrons and friends, as an illustrated talisman during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Amabie (Ah-ma-bee-eh) is a Japanese yokai originating from the 19th century, and was known to have appeared in the Kumamoto shores prophesying a pandemic. Legends goes that if you drew a picture of the yokai, the disease will leave. This is also my interpretation of the Amabie as a long-lost cousin of Hong Kong’s Lo Ting.
