#04 Hand

His palms were calloused, the skin on his fingertips thick from plucking the strings of his guitar and bass. I could feel his warmed thumbprint as he brushed it against mine on the minibus home from a site visit to West Kowloon. After he had spent an hour sitting in the afternoon sun waiting for me. We played thumb wars when we were queueing up for the mini rollercoaster at the polar section in Ocean Park, or when we’re waiting for our friends to withdraw cash from the ATMs before dinner. He would always win.

I, on the other hand, had chubby and dimpled baby ones and could only win by cheating.

*****

I cheat by stealing a smooch or by using two hands against his one. Also I will continue to force you to consume extreme levels of cheese, even though I’m sure most of us are lactose intolerant. Three months being away from my partner.
